The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program is basically a partnership between the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic provinces. These include:
1. New Brunswick
2. Newfoundland and Labrador
3. Nova Scotia
4. Prince Edward Island
This program lets Atlantic employers hire qualified candidates for jobs that they haven’t been able to fill locally. You can be in Canada temporarily or living abroad at the time of applying. However, please note that a valid job offer is an essential requirement before you can apply to the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program.
If the potential employee and the employer meet the requirements, the permanent residency status is granted. The fee to apply is CAD $1000, and the processing time is around 6 months.
The Three Streams:
Employers can hire you through 1 of 3 programs in Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program. You may be eligible for more than one program, but you can only apply through one program. These include:
1. Atlantic High Skilled Program.
2. Atlantic Intermediate Skilled Program.
3. Atlantic International Graduate Program.
1) Atlantic High Skilled Program:
To qualify for this program, you must:
- have worked in a management, professional or technical/skilled job or at least a year;
- have at least a Canadian high school diploma or equivalent education;
- take a language test to show you can communicate in English or French;
- show you can support yourself and your family when you come to Canada;
2) Atlantic Intermediate Skilled Program:
To qualify for this program, you must:
- have worked in a job that requires a high school education and/or job specific training for at least a year;
- have at least a Canadian high school diploma or equivalent education;
- take a language test to show you can communicate in English or French;
- show you can support yourself and your family when you come to Canada;
3) Atlantic International Graduate Program:
To qualify fo this program, you must:
- have a degree, diploma or other credential from a publicly-funded institution in an Atlantic province;
- have lived in an Atlantic province for at least 16 months in the 2 years before getting your degree, diploma or credential;
- take a language test to show you can communicate in English or French;
- show you can support yourself and your family when you come to Canada;
Eligibility Criteria:
Work experience: At least 1560 hours in the last 5 years for NOC level 0, A, B, C.
Education: Canadian education or ECA
Language Proficiency: CLB 4 or higher
Proof of funds: CAD $3118 per main applicant
Settlement Plan:
After you get a job offer from a designated employer, you and any family members who are aged 18 years and over and who will be living with you in Canada need to get a settlement plan.
This plan is FREE and you’ll work with a settlement service provider or organization to make this plan.
The plan will:
- help you settle in Canada;
- give you resources and links related to you and your family’s needs;
- tell you where you can go in the community to get help
Employer and the Offer Letter:
This is the most crucial part of the entire process. The employer must be designated as an employer taking part in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program by the Atlantic Province where you’ll be working. They must have a Confirmation of Designation from the province.
Please note that LMIA is not required for AIPP.
Endorsement letters:
After you have finalized your settlement plan, the province must endorse the job offer. Don’t worry, your employer will handle this process. The employer will fill out and submit an endorsement application to the province. This will include a copy of your settlement plan.
Remember that each province has its own process. Your employer may need more documents from you and you may also have to sign some forms.
